Malick Fofana isn’t rushing into the Premier League just because the opportunity is there.
The 20-year-old Belgian winger had a strong season for Lyon in Ligue 1, scoring 11 goals and providing 5 assists.
Naturally, clubs across Europe have shown interest this summer.
One Premier League side even went as far as submitting a bid and opening talks on personal terms.
But with the way things are unfolding, Fofana’s decision isn’t just about who acts first.
It’s about where he wants to play next.
That goal is shaping his choices—and it looks like it has shut the door at one of the interested parties.
Earlier this month, Le’Equipe reported that Liverpool had opened talks with Fofana’s representatives.
The Reds have been monitoring him closely as they look to strengthen their attack.
However, it was their Merseyside rivals Everton who made the first formal move.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are “in advanced talks” with Lyon and have submitted an official bid.
The offer was reportedly worth around €36 million, including bonuses.
But Lyon want a guaranteed €40 million before discussing any add-ons.
Despite Everton’s aggressive push, Fofana isn’t convinced.
According to a post by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri on X, “Malick Fofana’s has other plans than joining Everton Football Club.
As told yesterday, the Belgian Red Devil knows some teams playing Champions League that are waiting to make room in the squad are interested in him.”
Fofana has also reportedly rejected the advances of Nottingham Forest since the transfer window opened.
His focus remains clear.
Fofana’s main focus is joining a top-tier European club if he decides to leave Lyon this summer.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich are still in the picture.
For now, Everton are not.
